By examining how gender, race, class, sexuality, disability, Indigeneity, and citizenship status shape individual and community experiences in rural places in the US, this course delves into the practices, politics, prose, poetry, and persuasions of rural subcultures and denaturalizes common stereotypes of what a rural American is, thinks, and does.

Prerequisite: 6 hours of AMST coursework or equivalent.
