SPAN 4200 - Introduction to Research Credits: 3 Max Credit: 3
We will model the steps required to carry a successful research project in linguistics or other Spanish-related topic, emphasizing the different skills needed for each of the steps: from choosing a topic and doing bibliographic search and management, we will move into question formation and literature reviewing to frame the question. Then we will move onto data sources, sampling, and data analysis so students are able to formulate a research plan reflected in the writing of a grant proposal. In addition, students will observe oral academic presentations and reflect upon how to make one, and then present themselves their final project to the rest of the class in a department open-doors event.
Prerequisite: 6 hours of upper division credit in Spanish. Dual Listed SPAN 5200
USP 2015 Code U5C3
