This certificate is designed to provide University of Wyoming (UW) students with a unique, interdisciplinary credential that includes the basics of petroleum engineering with other subsurface energy topics.

Please note that students currently pursuing a degree in Petroleum Engineering are not eligible to add this certificate to their program of study.

Required Core: 6 credits

PETE 2050 - Fundamentals of Petroleum Engineering Credits: 3
PETE 2070 - Geology/Geophysics for Petroleum Engineers Credits: 3
Note: Students pursuing a B.S. in ERMD, can replace the required PETE 2070 by completing:
GEOL 1100 - Physical Geology Credits: 4 (USP:PN)
AND
GEOL 4010 - Exploration Geoscience Credits: 3
or ERS 4010 - Exploration Geoscience Credits: 3

Elective Groups

12 credit hours must be completed within a single, designated focus area selected from the electives listed below. Students must complete all required core courses in addition to the electives associated with their chosen focus area. The selected focus area will not be designated on the student’s transcript or diploma.
