Energy Resource Management and Development, B.S. -3+3 Professional Land Management

The 3+3 PLM program at UW is an opportunity for qualified undergraduate students to earn their bachelor’s degree and law degree in six years instead of the traditional seven years.

University Studies Program

This degree requires that The University Studies Program 2015 requirements are met before graduation. Some of the courses required for this major fulfill USP requirements, but not all. Students should check their degree evaluations and consult with their assigned academic advisor to discuss their specific course plan.

Professional Land Management (PLM)

PLM graduates determine ownership and title of surface and subsurface rights, negotiate leases between owners and energy developers, ensure federal and state regulatory compliance in energy development, and negotiate and maintain company contractual obligations for development and the subsequent profits.

The first year of law school (31 credits) applies toward both the B.S. and J.D. degrees. Students admitted to UW’s College of Law (COL) 3+3 program begin law coursework during what would traditionally be their senior year. For years 1-3 in the B.S., students must select one academic pathway- Energy and Environmental Systems or Professional Land Management. The requirements for the PLM 3+3 program are outlined below:

  • Students must complete a minimum of 85-95 credits by the end of their junior year, including all required general education (USPs) and major coursework. A total of 90 credits will be completed through COL. The B.S. in Energy Resource Management and Development (BS-ERMD) will be awarded upon completion of 120 total credit hours, including year one of COL coursework, with a minimum cumulative UW GPA of 2.0. Students must complete 42 upper-division (3000-level or above) credit hours, at least 30 of which must be earned at UW.
  • During years 1-3 of the BS-ERMD program, students will be advised by the School of Energy Resources. During years 4-6 of the J.D. program, advising will be provided by COL
