Program Overview
The UW MBA Programs deliver professional management education that connects principles, concepts, and intense case analysis as tools for making business decisions. UW MBAs will possess the education and training to compete in today’s rapidly changing global business world. Both programs are AACSB Accredited. Campus MBA - The Campus MBA program offers admission during the Fall semester only and is typically completed in 1 year (Fall, J-Term and Spring semesters). Class sizes are small and diverse. Courses are taught by a select group of business faculty members. The total program experience (both inside and outside the classroom) is designed to provide experiential learning along with access to powerful networks. Online MBA - The Online MBA program offers admission 5 times a year and can be completed in one year, full-time or in two years, part-time. The program also offers additional flexibility for students who wish to develop a different timeline for completion. 100% online and asynchronous, the program is designed for business professionals interested in enhancing their understanding of business disciplines and applying them to decision making. Requirements
- Thirty-six (36) credit hours of graduate coursework, including participation in all MBA Program activities (orientation, Jackson Leadership Summit, MBA Executive Speaker Series, Professional Development, etc.). Please note that students enrolled in any dual degree MBA program are required to complete all MBA participation activities and the core coursework.
- This is a cohort based program and while the course sequence is highly structured, there may be the opportunity to extend the duration of the one-year program. Course sequence is subject to change at the discretion of the MBA Director.
- Maintain good academic standing at the program and university level and receive no letter grade of D or F. If a letter grade of D or F is received, the student may be immediately dismissed from the program.
- Participation in the International trip experience is required for all students in the Campus MBA program.
Academic Requirements
Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.000 in the MBA Program to remain in “good standing”. - If a student’s GPA falls below 3.000, he or she is automatically placed on academic probation.
- Students placed on academic probation will remain on continued probation until their cumulative GPA reaches 3.0 or better.
- When a student is on academic probation, they must achieve a minimum 3.0 semester GPA every semester to stay on continued probation and avoid being dismissed from the university.
- Students will be dismissed from the university if their cumulative GPA ever falls below a 2.0.
- Students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA to be eligible for graduation.
A student who earns a grade of “D” or “F” in any course will be dismissed from the program. Students may petition to be reinstated into the program. Campus MBA Core Requirements (27 Credit Hours)
Required of all MBA students including all dual degree students. Campus MBA Elective Requirements (9 credit hours)
- Students will be required to take 9 credit hours of electives.
- Electives must be at the 5000 level or above.
- Electives must be approved by the program director.
- Electives are used to satisfy the requirements of dual degrees, concentrations, and tracks. All MBA students are required to declare a dual program, concentration, or track. See additional details in the section “Dual Programs, Concentrations, and Tracks”.
In addition to the required coursework, Campus MBA students are also required to attend and participate in the activities listed below. Participation in all of these events will satisfy the MBA Activity Participation requirement. Students will not be eligible to graduate if they have not participated in all of these events or acquired an exception from the MBA Program Director. Required Campus MBA Activities: - MBA Executive Speaker Series - Students participate in weekly meetings (primarily on Fridays) with business leaders from a wide variety of industries (business, government, and non-profit entities). The program takes place mostly on campus but does include some travel. Attendance is Required.
- International Business Trip - Introduces students to themes and trends prevalent in the global business marketplace. The trip includes company visits, cultural experiences, and reflections on the issues individuals and companies face in global business. This experience is associated with MBAM 5330 Global Business, and part of the grade for the course is dependent on the student’s performance on the trip. Attendance is required.
- Jackson Leadership Summit - Exclusive leadership development event for MBA students to network and develop professionally. Attendance is required.
Online MBA Course of Study
Core Requirements (21 credit hours) - MBAX 5104 - Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management Credits: 3
- MBAX 5202 - Data and Decision Modeling Credits: 3
- MBAX 5204 - Financial Management Credits: 3
- MBAX 5207 - Marketing Management Credits: 3
- MBAX 5208 - Accounting for Managers Credits: 3
- MBAX 5305 - Strategic Management Credits: 3
- MBAX 5330 - The Global Business Environment Credits: 3
Elective Requirements (9 credits)
- Students will be required to take 9 credit hours of electives.
- Electives must be at the 5000 level or above.
- Electives must be approved by the program director.
- Electives are used to satisfy the requirements of dual degrees, concentrations, and tracks. All MBA students are required to declare a dual program, concentration, or track. See additional details in the section “Dual Programs, Concentrations, and Tracks”.

- MBA Executive Speaker Series - Weekly guest speakers (primarily on Fridays) who are business leaders from a wide variety of industries (business, government, and non-profit entities).
- Jackson Leadership Summit - Exclusive leadership development event for MBA students to network and develop professionally. Online students are invited during their last Fall semester in the program. In the case they are not admitted before RSVPs are due, they will be invited the next year.
Dual Programs, Concentrations, and Tracks
All MBA students must declare a dual program, concentration, or track for their MBA program. They should notify their academic advisor during their first semester of classes which dual program, concentration or track they will pursue. Dual Programs - Students may pursue a dual program with Law (JD), Engineering (MS), or Pharmacy (Pharm D).
- To be eligible for a dual degree students must apply and be accepted to both programs.
- Dual programs are only available to Campus MBA students.
- Students who pursue a dual degree may use 6 credits from the dual program toward electives in the MBA program.
Concentrations - Energy Business - Students will complete the core requirements for their program plus three additional classes focused on the energy Industry (instead of electives). This program prepares students for a career in the Energy industry.
- Accounting - Students will complete the core requirements for their program excluding MBAX 5208. In addition, they will complete 4 graduate level accounting classes aimed at preparing students to successfully take the CPA exam (instead of electives). The 4 accounting classes are ACCT 5030, ACCT 5040, ACCT 5060, and ACCT 5070.
Tracks - General: Choose 3 electives at the 5000-level or above that are approved by the program director.
- Marketing: choose 3 from Non-profit Marketing, International Marketing, Digital Marketing, Marketing Analytics, and Project Management.
- Financial Planning: Must take FIN 5750 and choose 2 from FIN 5070, FIN 5780, FIN 5720, FIN 5310
- Non-Profit: Must take non-profit leadership and choose 2 from Non-Profit Marketing, Non-Profit Accounting, or Project Management.
- Venture (Campus MBA only): Must take ENTR 5601, 5602, 5603.
Admission Requirements and Considerations
A Faculty Admissions Committee, chaired by the Director of the MBA Program, will review all completed applications. Students will be notified by email of the admission decision regarding their application. Below is a list of the minimum admission requirements for the MBA programs. These are the minimum requirements and do not guarantee admission. - Completed University of Wyoming Graduate Admissions Application and non-refundable application fee.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or college. For more information on accredited institutions, please visit the U.S. Department of Education site. For students who are applying for the Advanced Accounting Concentration the Bachelor’s degree must be in Accounting.
- A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credit hours of college or university coursework, preferred. Based on a 4.0 scale. If you do not meet this minimum preferred GPA, professional work experience in a related field may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Upon the recommendation for admission, students must provide official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework (post-secondary) to the University of Wyoming Admissions Office at 1000. E. University Ave., Laramie, WY 82071-2000.
Other Considerations in the admissions process: - GRE/GMAT is not required but may be requested by the program director to aid in making an admissions decision.
- Prerequisites: No specific prerequisite courses are required. However, evidence of technical proficiency and/or prior business experience from your work history and transcripts are considered in the admissions process.
Additional International Student Admission Requirements:
- International students must provide proof of English Proficiency according to the University of Wyoming’s admission policy. Waivers are available for students from certain English-speaking countries, and to students who have studied and lived in an English speaking county for a given amount of time. - International students must also prove sufficient financial resources as established by the University of Wyoming Graduate International Student Admissions.
