EDEC 4209 - Early Literacy Methods Credits: 3 This course focuses on the pedagogical content knowledge and instructional and assessment practices that will prepare students to implement research-based reading and writing instruction for children from ages 3-8. Key topics include reading aloud to young children; phonological awareness, phonics, and word recognition; reading fluency and comprehension; vocabulary; and writing.
Prerequisite: 2.75 UW cumulative and 2.5 content GPA; C or better in EDST 3100 , EDST 3101 , and EDEL 3720 ; concurrent enrollment in EDEL 4309 , EDEL 4109 , and EDEL 4410 .
