NCAA Athletics at UW

The University of Wyoming Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) consists of 17 teams competing at the NCAA Division I level: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football (FBS), men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s indoor track, men’s and women’s outdoor track and wrestling. 

The University of Wyoming competes in the Mountain West Conference (MW), and the Big 12 Conference (wrestling only). In addition to the University of Wyoming the MW consists of Grand Canyon University, Northern Illinois University (football only), San Jose State University, University of California-Davis, University of Hawaii, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, University of Nevada-Reno, University of New Mexico, University of Texas El Paso, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The DIA is managed by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics who reports directly to the President of the University. The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics ensures the department operates in a manner consistent with the rules and regulations of the University, the MWC and the NCAA.

Intramural Sports

The University of Wyoming’s Intramural Sports Program, managed by Campus Recreation through the Half Acre Recreation & Wellness Center, welcomes all students, faculty, staff-and even spouses-to participate in a wide array of sports at various levels of competitiveness .

  • Diverse offerings: Includes team sports (flag football, soccer, 3v3 basketball, volleyball, water polo), dual or individual contests (badminton, free-throw, bench press), outdoor events like 5K trail runs, and even esports and NFL pick’em .

  • Registration made easy: Sign up via the Fusion Play (formerly IMLeagues) app using your UWYO email or organization code, create or join teams, check schedules-all on your phone .

  • Fun, safe, and inclusive: Intramurals are casual and friendly by design, ideal whether you’re aiming for laid-back sessions or moderate competition .

  • Skill-building options: Newcomers can opt for teaching or recreational levels, while more experienced players may choose competitive divisions .

  • Campus-wide competition: Groups-whether student organizations, residence halls, or departments-can compete for the prestigious “Overall Campus Champions” titles in men’s, women’s, and co-rec divisions throughout the year, with custom T-shirts awarded to winners uwbrandingiron.com+4uwyo.edu+4fliphtml5.com+4.

  • Newest additions: Pickleball was recently introduced as a multi-week league with men’s, women’s, and co-rec divisions, reflecting its national growth


Student Organizations

Student Organizations add to the vibrancy and make the University of Wyoming so special. Whether a group is tabling in the breezeway of the Wyoming Union or participating in a national competition, our 200 student organizations provide a benefit to the UW Community.
