Residence Life is committed to providing a safe, meaningful, and enriching experience for students, with the belief that living on-campus promotes academic success, personal growth, and connectedness. The social and collaborative opportunities that occur while living on-campus are unparalleled elsewhere. You will meet new people, develop meaningful relationships, and integrate living & learning. We are committed to providing an environment that enhances your college experience and look forward to having you become a part of our campus community!

The residence halls provide convenient living, studying, educational programming, social activities and dining accommodations for the university community. Various living environments are available. Full-time, live-in professional staff and graduate assistants live in the community, along with student resident assistants on every floor. Staff are available to all students to help make living on-campus an enjoyable and productive experience. UW offers students the opportunity to live with others in living learning communities (LLC) and in first-year interest groups (FIG).

The residence halls also provide several additional services to our students:

  • Fully staffed customer service desks in each hall
  • Mail service
  • Laundry facilities on-site
  • Community gathering spaces & study rooms
  • On-call student and professional staff
  • Emergency custodial & maintenance services

Room assignments are based on student preferences as well as the date the completed contract form is received. Students returning to UW who wish to live in the residence halls must pay a $150 housing deposit when they complete their housing contract. The housing deposit will be applied to the cost of housing.  Hall, roommate, and other preferences may be indicated on the contract and will be considered in room placement.

Student Live-in Policy

The UW Trustees have established a policy requiring all new students admitted into in-person programs to live in the UW residence halls during their first academic year on campus and to have a contract for a residential dining hall plan. The policy is based on extensive student development research indicating that a student’s chance of academic success and satisfaction with the college experience greatly improves through the residential living experience.

Live-In Housing Exemption

An exemption to UW Regulation 11-8 may be sought for a variety of reasons such as:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Married

  • Will live on property purchased by parent(s) or legal guardian(s)
